LATERAL MEDULLARY SYNDROME LITERATURE REVIEW Abstract To the knowledge of this author, this is the first major literature analysis and discussion of dysphagia in depth of its kind on lateral medullary syndrome. A lateral medullary infarction or Wallenberg syndrome is the most common type of a brainstem stroke, and it presents completely

He performed a pathological analysis on the same patient’s autopsy in 1901, reporting the detailed pathology for the same. After 1901, this disease was called Wallenberg syndrome. 2021-03-24 Lateral Medullary (Wallenberg) Syndrome. Watch later.

2021-03-25 · Wallenberg syndrome is a neurological condition caused by a lateral medullary infarction, which results from occlusion of either the posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) or the vertebral artery. For this reason, it is also referred to as lateral medulla syndrome or PICA syndrome.

The clinical picture was suggestive of lateral medullary syndrome (LMS). Figure 1.

Lateral medullary syndrome is a neurological disorder causing a range of symptoms due to ischemia in the lateral part of the medulla oblongata in the brainstem. The ischemia is a result of a blockage most commonly in the vertebral artery or the posterior inferior cerebellar artery. Lateral medullary syndrome is also called Wallenberg's syndrome, posterior inferior cerebellar artery syndrome and vertebral artery syndrome.
